Skin tags are nothing but small outgrowth which is followed by a stem-like structure called peduncle. It might look like a bump or a small outgrowth which occurs occasionally around the joints, armpits, around the groin area and it is also visible over the eyelids. It is relatively safe to get it removed at home.  

Ligation: This process is also called as the thread method. In this method, a small thread or a piece of dental floss is used in order to remove skin tags. Take a small piece of the floss of a thread and surround it around the tag. make sure that the area around the tag is completely clean with the help of an antiseptic solution.

It is important that the thread is tight enough to stop the blood of the fibroepithelial polyp. Keep the thread for at least a week. You will notice that the tag will dry off and will fall in some days. 

Cryotherapy: This process is also called as the “cold therapy”. When the skin is exposed to extremely cold temperatures. In this treatment usually freezing temperature are used in order to destroy the tissue for getting rid of the skin tag.

Liquid nitrogen is used in order to freeze the skin tag.  When the tag freezes it dries off and fall in a week. It takes at least two to three sessions to get rid of the mole totally. 

Electrosurgery: This method is also known as Cauterization. In this process, the skin tag is totally burned with the help of a wire. When the skin is exposed to extremely high temperatures due to which skin tag will burn and fall off. It takes at least 2-3 days to heal that area totally.

Here are some of the ways you can get rid of skin tags: 

Apple cider vinegar:

Due to the amount of acidity the apple cider vinegar has worked perfectly to get rid of skin tags. It is known for its anti-inflammatory properties and helps to remove skin tags effectively. Add a few drops of apple cider vinegar with the help of a cotton ball. Apply it and rub over it a little bit. Cover the area with the help of duct tape. Make sure that you continue this process regularly and repeat it at least twice a day. 

Banana Peel:

This is considered to be one of the most effective ways to get off the fibroepithelial polyp. Banana peel is known for removing or curing a lot of skin conditions. Preferably use the inner side of the banana peel. Apply the fibrous part of the peel onto the skin tag and keep rubbing it for a while. Continue this process for two to three weeks to get the best results. 


In the local regions of U.S.A and Canada, it is observed that the herb names bloodroot is ‘strong medicine to reduce skin tags’. It is also known as a very good source to get rid of many skin conditions such as tumors as well. Before applying it over the skin tag make sure that the area has been cleaned. Manuka Honey:

This is the non-peroxide honey which blocks the oxygen supply of the skin tag for it to dry off and fall. After applying manuka honey cover it with a bandage and. Keep this bandage for a few hours and continue this process 2-4 times in a day. 


Ginger is one of the most used elements in the kitchen. It has a vast range of antibacterial and anti-microbial properties. Apply ginger juice over the tag. You can use a ginger slice as well. Continue this process for a week and repeat this process daily at least twice. 

Getting rid of these fibroepithelial polyps might appear easy with the help of the surgical methods. But it is relatively safe to get rid of them at home with the help of home remedies unless it includes scaling or cutting the skin tags as they might cause bleeding or infections which can be harmful.
